- 60 Years Of Making An Impact
April 24th Will Mark 60 Years Of Serving Our Members And Community
A message from Jeff Clark, President/CEO
Turning 60 ... it's hard to imagine what started in April of 1959, with eight men putting $5.00 in a bucket aboard Marine Corps Base Camp LeJeune, has turned into a nearly $750,000,000 credit union spreading over three states with members cast out over the four corners of the earth.
When those men decided to start a credit union, their foresight and determination pushed the envelope and broke barriers that enabled financial security to be offered to the Marines serving their country. That original Board of Directors set a bar that has been held high all the way through the service of our current Board of Directors.
In the beginning Harold Hussey, was tasked with starting Marine Federal CU, and he did amazing things in laying the foundation of bringing the Credit Union Movement to Marines aboard Camp LeJeune. With very limited resources, he was able to help so many Marines. It was later in the life of the credit union, when a young Craig Chamberlin was introduced to Jacksonville, North Carolina and Camp LeJeune. Chamberlin worked a few years under Hussey, and then upon Hussey’s retirement, took over as President/CEO. It was under Chamberlin’s tutelage that the credit union experienced its greatest expansion. Numerous offices were added in town (Jacksonville) and then expanded to Virginia and South Carolina. Additionally, he substantially grew membership, as well as assets. It was Chamberlin who brought Marine FCU to be the competitor it is today in the financial arena. These two men have put Marine FCU on the map and are fully responsible for the successes we have enjoyed as a viable entity in the Credit Union Movement.
On behalf of the Board of Directors and the entire staff, we are all so very proud to serve you, our members. Here's to the next 60 years of serving our Marines, both active and retired, and offerings to all the Armed Forces as well as the communities surrounding those installations.
Jeff Clark, President/CEO
Making an impact in members' lives and our community.
Throughout the year, we'll share on social media, our website, and emails, how we're making an impact on the lives of our members and the communities we serve.
The people we employee pull together and make a difference. They often raise funds for many of the charities and organizations that support the Military and local communities. One of the recent employee initiatives raised $1,827.44 for Homes For Our Troops. This charity builds specially adapted homes for post 9/11 Veterans.
We will be sharing member stories, employee spotlights, sponsorships, and fundraisers through out the year. Thank you for allowing us to serve you the past 60 years.
